February desktop wallpaper download

It’s the month of love. Ok – super cheezy, but whatever. You all know it’s true no matter how much we love or hate it! I got a ton of requests asking if I could provide a monthly calendar download like I did for January, so here it is, and I’ll try to make this a monthly recurring thing as much as I can. Also, I downloaded them myself and realized how much of a help it was to have a calendar right there as your wallpaper for easy access and reference!

Following your heart doesn’t just apply to this month – it’s a daily mantra for me! I tend to analyze…like, a lot. But when it comes down to it, most of my choices are based on what my heart tells me to do! ♥

Are you the type of person who follows your heart or your head?

Waderlusting // Rocky Mountains, Colorado

Colorado, steal my heart, why don’t ya!!

You can’t even imagine how much I was looking forward to this mini-vacay trip to Colorado with some of my dearest and oldest friends, a much needed girls weekend! My only experience with the Midwest has been a road trip to Kansas City, Missouri. I’m a coastal girl and I’ve lived by the ocean (whether the Pacific or now the Atlantic) my entire life. I’ve been to Las Vegas a bunch of times and always thought it weird to look at the horizon and not see the ocean, but instead just miles and miles of…land. Of course, Colorado is the same way, but let me tell you, the Rocky Mountains were SO beautiful that it more than made up for the lack of ocean sighting!

We took the drive up to the Rocky Mountains to spend the night at a bed & breakfast in Fraser. We drove there at night – out in the middle of nowhere, high in the mountains. You can imagine how scary of a drive that was not being able to see anything. However, in the morning, this is what we woke up to…Oh you know, just the most beautiful sight!

A visit to Rocky Mountain National Park got us a short sight of something I can semi check off my bucket list – a moose! Well, a mama and baby. I’ve been wanting to catch the sight of a male moose for such a long time now! The wildlife in these mountains are abundant, majestic and mesmerizing, to say the very least. We even encountered a family of rams coming down the mountain on the drive back. And the hustling skiing/snowboarding town of Breckenridge was absolutely gorgeous – on my next trip, I’ll be sure to do some snowboarding!

I mean, seriously, I cannot get over how gorgeous it was! I’m still swooning over all the breathtaking views (literally everywhere!) – and I’ve never seen so much snow in my life! For those of you who follow me on Pinterest, you know that I’m a big nature fan, so I can literally talk about this all day. This trip was exactly what I needed – a relaxing weekend away from the city with some of my very favorite people! I highly recommend you experience this for yourself!

Have you ever been to the Colorado Rocky Mountains?

DIY decor // Painted heart garland

DIY painted heart garland_valentine's day

I ended up painting a lot of hearts for this upcoming Valentine’s Day. And I mean a lot. I love hand making all my decor and gifts, especially for this holiday! I think it’s the best way to show that person how much you care. This garland is super easy. I made mini hearts because I’m pretty much obsessed with anything mini. I just cut a ton of hearts (I cut mine about 3/4″ but feel free to cut them as big or small as you like) on watercolor paper and then painted them my favorite shades of pink! Then I glued them to some string and voila! Something sweet and simple for decorating your home with on that special day.

With any left over painted hearts, I’ve been using almost like confetti. My mom’s birthday was yesterday and I threw some into her box that I mailed to her! Surprise! ♥

I’m based in Vancouver, BC Canada. I grew up in the country and that has stuck with me my whole life! Now I live in the city and that’s influenced me in totally different ways. Happily – where I live is close to some of the most beautiful nature trails in the world – so I feel really lucky to have the best of both worlds here.

I’m a self taught designer and I am so inspired by living a creative life, and the creativity of other designers and makers around the world. I feel lucky to be able to make a living doing what I love.

Dress and Braid for the Occasion
Achieving the red carpet look with the perfect ensemble

So the Grammy Awards are this coming Sunday and I thought I’d share some trending red carpet looks…well, mostly hair. I’ve kind of been obsessed with braids lately – have you?! I mean, you may have noticed me pinning them like crazy! I love that braids can be dressed up sweet and pretty, or dressed down and messy…both red carpet styles – either way, they look amazing! Here are a few of my favorite styles:

// Valentino Braids (side braid and milkmaid braid)
These iconic hairstyles made popular by Valentino may have graced numerous high-profile fashion runways all over the world, but achieving this look doesn’t have to cost a fortune (or a supermodel body) – be bold and pair this one-sided Irish braid or milkmaid braid with any form-fitting dress. Speaking of which, if majority of us can’t look like those supermodels, some brands are there to the rescue so that we can at least feel like supermodels. Did you know that by coming up with innovative ideas that suit women of all shapes and sizes, M&S successfully introduced their Secret Support dresses that smooths “danger zones” like the tummy, hips, and thighs? Now, any woman can feel more comfortable in their clothes, and I’m all for that!

// Fishtail Braid
Achieving the perfect look with this classic hairstyle becomes easy, as long as we don’t over-complicate things – the fishtail braid is so intricate and detailed on its own! Any relaxed top and washed out denim shorts goes well with a tousled ‘do, woven into an Irish-inspired fishtail braid. Or dress it up with a simple and pretty silhouette! Even paired with a feminine, sharp black pantsuit and shirt looks amazing.
